Moral Policing: Haveri Police Nab Two for Manhandling Intercommunity Pair
Haveri: A case of moral policing has been registered at the Hangal police station in Haveri, following an incident where a man and a woman, both from different communities, staying at a lodge in Nalkar Cross in the taluk, were allegedly assaulted by a group.
The incident, which occurred on January 8, came to light on January 10 after a video of the assault went viral on social media.
According to the police, the man, around 40 years old from Hassan, and the woman, aged 28 from a minority community in Sirsi, visited the lodge. An auto-rickshaw driver, also from the minority community, observed this and informed other community members.
Within no time, a group gathered at the room where the couple was staying. The group verbally abused them, dragged them outside, and allegedly assaulted them, taking both to an isolated place.
The reason for their visit to the lodge is not yet known. The lady informed the police that they were just friends, and their relationship grew after they met on a bus journey a few months ago.
The Hangal police have registered a case, arrested two accused, and in the video, there were 5-6 people. Efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining individuals, they said.
